Being close to universities, hospitals and other like-minded businesses are all really important factors when looking for a space to work from and carry out research. Working in Bidwells’ business space agency team, I help to match each company to a space that best fits their needs. Find out more about what I do in my answers below.
Could you describe what your job is?
As a commercial property agent at Bidwells, my role is focused on helping science and technology companies finding the right type of space for their business, whether that’s for offices, labs or more technical R&D focussed uses.
Day to day, my role involves negotiating favourable commercial terms based on market knowledge and an understanding of the drivers behind the science companies I deal with. I aim to meet each client’s priorities, whether they are a commercial landlord letting space, or are a tenant looking to occupy space.
What do you love about your job? Why do you enjoy working in this industry?
I love working with cutting-edge science and tech companies who are improving lives through innovation. Adapting real estate to enable their growth is exciting. It’s really rewarding find the perfect location, particularly knowing that the deals we complete facilitates company growth and development.
Why did you pursue/fall into a ‘Science Aligned’ Career?
I recognised that research and the commercialisation of research in the science and technology sector is propelling the UK economy and I wanted to be part of it. Oxfordshire was primed for growth, so I moved to Oxford to join this niche market.
Could you tell us about what an exciting day in your role would look like?
Exciting days involve viewings and having conversations with occupiers to understand their commercial real estate needs. With new developments being built in and around Oxford, I really enjoy helping companies to find a space that can facilitate their growth ambitions.
What three words would you use to describe what you do?
Strategic, dynamic, fun
What are the most interesting projects you've been involved in?
Projects at Harwell Campus stand out for me - the invaluable facilities there make up approximately one sixth of the UK’s public scientific infrastructure. Advising on commercial real estate sitting alongside these facilities is a really exciting space to be working in. The blend of the public sector, educational institutions and private companies on one site is really unique and helps businesses to grow at pace.
