Located in Dumfries and Galloway, the project moved into the construction phase in early March. Bidwells advised the landowner throughout the development of the Windy Standard complex, with Windy Standard III delivering the latest phase of the wind farm development. This further expansion of Windy Standard represents the culmination of Bidwells' comprehensive strategic advisory services in bringing this significant renewable energy development forward within a working commercial forest.
The first phase of the Windy Standard complex was one of Scotland’s first consented wind farms, and throughout the phased development Bidwells' renewable energy team worked with the developer to overcome complex property challenges, including negotiating the option and lease agreements, and agreeing commercial terms that satisfy both energy production goals and the landowner’s requirement to maintain a productive commercial forest.
Windy Standard III adds a further 20 turbines with an anticipated installed capacity of 87.6MW, generating enough clean electricity to power the equivalent of 131,286 UK homes annually. The constructed is anticipated to complete later this year.
Rosalind Clifford, Head of Energy & Renewables at Bidwells commented:
"The Windy Standard III project demonstrates how strategic land management can support Scotland's renewable energy goals while maintaining existing land use objectives. Our team has helped to ensure the project will deliver environmental benefits alongside clean energy generation for years to come."
The Windy Standard complex has made a substantial contribution to the local economy over its 25-year operational history – delivering over £186 million of contracts with Scottish businesses, 116 construction jobs (FTE) and 73 operational and maintenance jobs (FTE). Throughout this period, Bidwells has provided ongoing advisory services and strategic guidance for the development.
It is envisaged that Windy Standard III will be commissioned in December 2026. Further information can be found at www.windystandardwindfarm.co.uk
