Bidwells’ Natural Capital and Sustainable Investment team is delighted to be involved with the delivery of a Riverwoods project, which brings together a variety of stakeholders to deliver ecosystem improvements, financed using new mechanisms beyond traditional grants.

As part of the River ‘Almond Headwaters’ project, Bidwells helped our client, the Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust, to secure a £124K grant from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.

This funding will be used to deliver a pioneering project across three adjacent estates in Highland Perthshire. Working with the landowners, Bidwells and PKCT will develop a programme of ecological restoration, with interventions including riparian tree planting, regenerative deer management and renewed access for wild fish such as salmon to ancient spawning grounds in the upper reaches of the Almond.

“We are delighted to have helped our client secure this funding from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and excited to get to work on what will be a ground-breaking project using private finance and payments for ecosystem services to fund nature recovery in Highland Perthshire. If we get this right, our project could be a blueprint that is replicable right across Scotland and the UK.”
