Ian Stewart

Working within the silvicultural sector in the UK and Canada has furnished Ian with a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the current challenges and environmental considerations when managing woodlands – whether as a commercial asset or native species regeneration programme.

Ian is based in Fort William and works throughout the west Highlands and onto the Islands. Covering all aspects of forestry, he relishes the variety of his role which entails everything from woodland creation, ongoing management and health assessments to market analysis and harvesting.

With plenty of operational and on-the-ground experience, Ian is an advocate for the huge potential benefits that forestry can deliver in terms of biodiversity, climate change mitigation, social wellbeing, employment as well as the sound financial returns.

Having been instrumental in the creation of an award-winning native woodland at Kinlochleven, Ian is currently managing an impactful large-scale clearing of rhododendron from a west coast estate to allow natural regeneration and improved commercial forestry. It’s already having an amazing effect on the environment
