Leading bioscience and environmental research with 1.6m sq ft to grow

Norwich Research Park (NRP) is one of the largest single-site research hubs in Europe, specialising in food, genomics, and health. Home to 40 businesses, it employs approximately 30,000 people and is one of the world’s largest clusters of microbiologists. Officially launching as NRP in 1992, the Park has evolved into a globally recognised centre for innovation.

Bidwells has played a pivotal role in shaping the Park’s growth for over a decade. Our work with the University of East Anglia has helped deliver landmark developments such as the Bob Champion Medical Research Building and the Low Carbon Enterprise Centre.

More recently, we led the refurbishment and extension of the Grade II Listed Lasdun Wall, safeguarding its future as a centre for scientific research while aligning with UEA’s Net Zero Carbon ambitions.

We have also worked with the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital to secure planning permission for essential medical facilities, including a new Community Diagnostic Centre, alongside additional theatres and wards.

Beyond academic and healthcare projects, we have delivered key research and commercial buildings that underpin NRP’s role as a global science and technology hub. Planning consultancy support for the Quadram Institute, Ella May Barnes Building, in which we also supplied commercial agency services, and Grow-On Buildings has helped create state-of-the-art facilities for cutting-edge research and business growth.

As a designated Enterprise Zone, the Park fosters an ecosystem where start-ups and established enterprises thrive.

Looking ahead, NRP is expanding to attract new businesses and institutions, reinforcing its position as a leader in bioscience and environmental research. Bidwells remains a trusted partner, ensuring the Park’s infrastructure and strategic vision align with the demands of future scientific and technological advancement.
