Whitelee Solar, Hydrogen and Battery Storage

Location
Whitelee Windfarm, East Ayrshire, Scotland

As demand for green energy increases, more renewable generation projects of all types are required. At the same time, operators must ensure that the electricity grid remains stable and secure.

Whitelee wind farm is the largest onshore windfarm in the UK and is now being supplemented with a solar farm, additional battery storage capacity and a green hydrogen production facility.

Our client owns land where a proposed 20 MW solar farm is to be constructed in addition to providing an access route to build and maintain a new 50 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and green hydrogen production facility.

The proposed solar farm site contains complex ground conditions where consideration had to be given to the existing natural capital, carbon storage potential and alternative land uses such as forestry and agriculture.

We worked with the developer to agree terms for the land rights required to develop and build the project, protecting our client’s interests while finding a solution that allowed the developer to progress with their plans.

Whitelee Green 2

A planning application has been submitted with an agreement in place that benefits all parties, and which will assist in delivering more green energy to our electricity grid and allow the development of one of the first green hydrogen production plants in the country.
